Pablo Contrisciani, Untitled 26, 2009
Pablo Contrisciani: Synthesis Curated by Daniela Montana
Contrisciani’s Synthesis is a visceral manifestation of a collective experience. The work arises from bold gestural movements, dispersing bright colors squeezed, compressed and hurled across the canvas, creating two-dimensional forms imbued wigency of our time, while timeless.
As his contemporaries are celebrated for their appropriation of arts imagery, Contrisciani’s Synthesis, is derivative of prior traditions advocating progressive explorations of color and freedom of expression. As an Argentine, Contrisciani has been influenced by his cultural progenitors. Informalismo Argentino’s impulsive ruptures in traditional composition and use of discarded objects are present in Contrisciani’s works, as is the anarchy of canvas and frenzied rhythmic dispersal of colors reminth a monumental architectural quality. The resulting delirium of color, contour, texture, motion and emotion has the spirit and uriscent of his professor, Luis Felipe Noe.
Synthesis is an experimentation in pure abstraction in which, as with jazz, the artist departs from conventional norms, improvising as he stretches beyond the confines of comfort to the edges of harmony and cohesion.
Ongoing Exhibit A selection from the Montana Collection. Emma Pineiro, Naum Knop and Daniela Viotti.

Miguel Padura, Breve Historia del Tiempo, 2009
Oil on Canvas, 57 x 62 in.
Miguel Padura. Recent Works
“Padura is one of the most interesting and innovative younger realist now working in the United States. Unlike many representational painters active in this country whose points of reference are often specifically North American, the look and feel of the frequently enigmatic compositions of Padura encompass allusions to several traditions. He is an artist who is aware of and assimilates the past in a unique way. In some instances he makes the viewer immediately aware of his sources and his points of inspiration. At other moments the beholder of his canvases can become entangled in a web of mysterious allusions that he has seemingly created out of richness of his own fantasy..”Edward J. Sullivan.
“What interests me, as critic of my own geographical latitude, is that in Padura’s paintings I detect a spiritual climate given by luminous and atmospheric equivalents which reveal a personality shaped in that notable geographic and human medium that is the Caribbean. A realist within the most demanding of the traditions, Miguel Padura has with his forcefulness and sensorial richness and important place among our artists of the Spanish-speaking world.

Third Thursday - Brickell Gallery Night
Manuel Carbonell. Modern Master Sculptor
Permanent Exhibit An important collection of maquettes, sculptures, bas-reliefs and monumental sculptures by Cuban Master Sculptor Manuel Carbonell. His commissioned work as the creator of two of Miami’s most important landmarks, “The Tequesta Family” at the Brickell Avenue Bridge and “El Centinela del Rio” at the entrance of the Miami River in Brickell Key, denotes his more classical and figurative style. The works exhibited at the Gallery are modern, where Carbonell searches for the essence of the form and the absence of detail while giving a sense of monumentality to his work.
Three monumental 8-foot Carbonell sculptures will be part of two upcoming fairs; the Miami International Art Fair at the Miami Beach Convention Center on January 7-10 and at Art Palm Beach at the Palm Beach County Convention Center on January 15-19, together with an important collection of paintings by Cuban Masters Rafael Soriano and Humberto Calzada.

Program II
Twyla Tharp’s The Golden Selection. Divertimento No. 15, Valse Fantaisie (1953) and Slaughter on Tenth Ave.
The Golden Selection with choreography by Tharp and music by Byrne. "There were thirteen dancers," Tharp has recalled, "and there was one impulse." Dressed in dancer/athlete get-ups of burnished gold, as if they were all Olympic champions, the seven male and six female dancers sail, soar, and tear through the air of the stage's golden, glowing light.
Divertimento No. 15 with choreography by Balanchine and music by Mozart is a plotless ballet in five movements (the second of the score's six minuets was not choreographed). It contains starring roles for five women, all of whom receive ample opportunities to shine, including sharply characterized solo variations in the second movement.
Premiered in 1953, Valse Fantaisie (1953) with choreography by Balanchine and music by Glinka. One man and three women: it was an arrangement of dancers and dynamics that choreographer Balanchine used often throughout his career. This concept led him to place his danseur noble among three equally compelling women, rather than opposite one or torn between two.
Slaughter on Tenth Avenue was created as part of the 1936 musical comedy On Your Toes (Balanchine’s first Broadway collaboration). It was actually a “play within a play” – an integral element in the overall storyline.

American Chronicles:
The Art of Norman Rockwell Exhibition
The exhibition features more than 70 works from the Norman Rockwell Museum’s collections, including Rockwell’s 323 Saturday Evening Post covers, his greatest oil paintings and preparatory sketches, as well as archival photographs and documents that illustrate his artistic process. It’s a major retrospective of Rockwell’s work throughout his 65-year career.
American Chronicles showcases Rockwell’s portrayal of American life, from scenes of childhood innocence to the wrenching Murder in Mississippi (1965), the artist’s response to the slaying of three civil rights workers. One of the most popular American artists of the 20th century, Rockwell (1894-1978), was a keen observer of human nature and a gifted storyteller, and chronicled the changing American society through nuanced scenes of ordinary people in everyday life.
The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue featuring in-depth scholarship by longtime Curator of Rockwell Collections Linda Szekely Pero. Irvin Lippman, Executive Director of the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale said “The exhibition also allows us to examine our renowned William Glackens collection within the context of his illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post as well as Munsey’s, Scribner’s, and Harper’s magazines.” Glackens as Illustrator will be on view concurrently with the Rockwell exhibition.

José Gurvich, Hombre cósmic NY, Témpera / papel
January 20 – April 11 The Fantastic World of José Gurvich José Gurvich was an extraordinary artist whose life bridged distant places and cultures. When he was six years old his family emigrated to Uruguay. His pictorial language developed from the diverse environments and art forms he was exposed to: intimate domestic scenes in Montevideo, rural life and religious festivities in Israel, New York's crowds and vibrant urban views. Each element in his paintings is carefully chosen from lived experience and condensed by his constant search for the fundamental and essential.
His art speaks directly to the soul, addressing the need to see reality through the eyes of the spirit. In his work Gurvich paired the fantastic and the everyday in a way that appears effortless. So join us for the opening and come experience The Fantastic World of José Gurvich.
