Michelle Concepcion: Recent paintings |
Michelle Concepción’s abstract paintings are an enigma: abstract compositions that evoke diametrically different interpretations. They are like visual meditations, dreamy shapes that appear to be floating in their space. Contributing to the varying interpretations of Concepcion ’s subject matter is their extraordinary illusion of texture.
For several years, Concepcion ’s paintings have either been in black, gray and white or shades of blue on an all-black or white background. Some of her recent works burst into a palette of lush colors: pumpkin, lime, deep scarlet, cobalt blue. The most common description of the colorful new works is “gorgeous,” Miller reports.
Although the Coral Gables exhibition is Concepción’s first one-person show in the U.S., she has held a half-dozen solo shows in Germany and Spain and since 1988 has participated in 54 group exhibitions in leading museums, galleries and art fairs in the United States and Europe. |

Iban Navarro, Untitled, watercolor on paper, 2005.
30 x 24 in |
|
Spanish artists
Joaquin Hidalgo and Iban Navarro. |
Hidalgo's career has spanned more than half a century. His deft use of the palette where oils and acrylics shape the curves of the femenine figure, also give life to everyday objects in his dead nature paintings. In his current series, female portraits, dead nature of Spanish bodegones and the mysterious "Pierrots" share the spotlight. Hidalgo's artistic evolution has never surrendered substance for the changes in style and techniques, making him an important figure in today's artistic landscape.
For Iban Navarro, art was something that he carried in his veins since he was conceived. His father Jesus Navarro was an exponent of hyperrealism and is a major influence in Iban's work. Born in Barcelona in 1982, the younger Navarro follows the father's style while focusing on landscapes and mixing his own vision of everyday subjects and giving it a new sense of reality.

Shadows
Susana Rodriguez |
Faceless people rushing through the streets of giant cities like rats in a moving maze, disintegrating into misty silhouettes devoid of any essence, of any substance, of any soul "mere shadows of themselves".
The Americas Collection is pleased to present a poignant exhibition brought to us by the argentine artist Susana Rodriguez. The conception of this series came about in 2006 when the artist began to observe the streets of New York City as they got attacked by the fast flowing of anonymous bodies always accompanied by their mutating shadows.
This particular body of work tends to generate an inexplicable
sensation of solitude or melancholy. Her use of large voids or dark holes wrapping around her figures help create the mood. Rodriguez touches on the subject of physical and/or emotional separation, as well as identity loss as people try to survive within the tentacles of a big city.
We cordially invite you to our opening night to meet Susana Rodriguez next Friday, June 6, 2008. If you would like a preview of the exhibition, please contact us at 305-446-5578.

John Amat has set his intuitive eye on the art of his native island of Cuba. The self-taught artist and entrepreneur has tapped into the bountiful island and discovered talented artists creating extraordinary landscapes and windows into the timeless milieu of the island.
The art gallery represents Cuban artists that show an array of styles ranging from hyperrealism to surrealism, as well as a diverse content area without the trappings of political, social or economic undertones. When you step inside the gallery, the breathtaking lush mountain landscapes and fauna with cavernous watering holes: or the still life consisting of the exotic native fruits wrapped by the sensuous oblique lighting: in a hidden corner, will take you far away, yet only miles away.

New Works
by Gilda Sacasas |
The art of Gilda Sacasas evokes the distinctive character of the eternal feminine. Her paintings are a poetic expression of her dreams and surroundings, created to enchant and visually stimulate the viewer's imagination. In this exhibition the women appear to be confident and strong, yet at the same time feminine and soft. Sacasas is an artist of intense expression, has the power to impress the mind and arouse feelings of love, life and spirit.
Sacasas is a Cuban American contemporary artist who focuses on figures and color. Colors that endow her pieces with light, depth, mood, movement and energy projecting inner spiritual peace. Through her bold use of color, the real world she sees, becomes her world on canvas. Her experiences, memories and feelings, painting from the heart.
"When I look at my work I see the intensity of the sun, the moon, the vibrant colors that surround us and the sensual happy music of my homeland." She has been profiled in numerous national and international publications. Sacasas' work ranges from original paintings, limited edition giclees and mixed media ceramics.
