Milton Becerra. Ale’Ya.
(libro del principio de las verdades escritas)

"Milton Becerra has an original, distinctive and personal language, having a truly surprising power of renewal and revival: consistent with his artistic conviction, his own manner of assuming artistic creation.

The works gathered in this exhibition share this exceptional condition. Reference to myths of Wayúu ethnicity, the elements of natural landscape and the manifestation of a geometric rationalism coexist in them without conflict, articulated under the principles of harmony and proportion.

Milton Becerra is probably the most fruitful and prolific Venezuelan plastic artist of his generation. His vast production comprises practically all the artistic means and procedures used in worldwide contemporary plastic research.

His rock assemblies on a plane surface, observed through a scheme of dense knots, carried out by means of the adaptation of a metric and constructivist disposition, change these works into a sort of homage to kinetics, conceived by the use of icons and gestures belonging to his own artistic discourse, as are the rocks, ropes and knots. Indeed, in these works – as in all of Becerra’s artistic works – the common denominator seems to be the precise domain of space and its expression in aesthetic, poetic and symbolic terms. Adolfo Wilson.

Durban Segnini Gallery is participating in Art Miami until Sunday December 6.

Antonia Guzman, Te Sostengo, Acrylic on Canvas, 31 x 16 in.

Until December 31st
Antonia Guzmán.
Lazos de Amor / Love Ties

This is Guzmán’s most recent work. In this new series, her paintings are visual poems that revolve around her family life and the many complexities that emanate from it.

IEach painting offers a glimpse into a moment in time in which an intimate exchange is taking place. Guzmán titles her paintings carefully, offering some clarity by connecting the dots between the viewer’s personal interpretation and the artist’s intent.

The childlike characters that fly across her canvases, intertwining with one another, emphasize themes of family bond, heritage, fragile unions and/or unstable connections. Underneath the vivid colors and playful compositions, the artist reveals a world of complex emotions. To her, there is nothing stronger than the unconditional ties that form within the family, despite how burdensome these relationships may become.

As Antonia herself puts it: “What else is love if not those links, mandates, divisions, unions, and that powerful force that attracts and rejects.”

The Americas Collection art gallery has represented Antonia Guzmán for almost a decade. This gallery has actively promoted her work in numerous solo exhibitions and various art fairs like Art Miami, arteaméricas, and Red Dot.

Linda Touby, Homage to Giotto 414, Oil and Wax on Canvas, 2009, 56 x 56 in.

Five Abstract Visions
Michelle Concepcion, Aaron Karp, Florian Depenthal, Andy Moses and Linda Touby

“Five outstanding mid-career artists exhibit their unique works in “Five Abstract Visions”. Included are floating shapes of
Michelle Concepción, with their illusions of craggy depth. A video of her painting is included in the exhibition.

Florian Depenthal’s unique perspective as a pilot is reflected in his paintings and their “dangerous, almost repulsive colors,” according to German critic and filmmaker Heinz Peter Schwerfel.

Painted after he saw the patterned tiles in the Alhambra,
Aaron Karp’s mosaic-like, fractured fields of color and space reveal their secondary, three-dimensional compositions as the viewing distance increases.

Inspired by Titian’s swirling clouds of light and Turner’s radiantly glowing canvases,
Andy Moses captures motion and light in shimmering surfaces that refract the light differently as viewers move past them.

Linda Touby’s
current series “suggest the erosion that time has wrought upon the surfaces of Giotto’s great frescoes,” notes critic Ed McCormack.
