Migrations: Looking South Art Show
Selection of Central-American art curated by Rosina Cazali. Artists: Ronald Morán (El Salvador), Donna Conlon (Panama), Patricia Belli (Nicaragua), Grupo La Torana (Guatemala), Adán Valdecillo (Honduras), Ángel Poyón Calí (Guatemala), Danny Zavaleta (El Salvador), Miguel Ángel Madrigal (México), Regina Galindo (Guatemala), Dalia Chévez (El Salvador), Lucía Madriz (Costa Rica), Betsabé Romero (Mexico) and Ernesto Salmerón (Nicaragua)
Migration is the movement of people or human groups from their place of origin to other regions. This movement may be voluntary, as is the case with legal emigrants with work permits, or involuntary and ensuing from the lack of job opportunities; it may be massive or as a result of armed conflicts or due to ethnic exclusions, which are escalating now in a significant and disturbing manner.
The exhibition proposes a new standpoint for analyzing the Central-American migration process through a rarely explored outlook: culture. Migrations: Looking South Art was created by Guatemalan curator Cazali and includes several artists from the region who through their creativity would approach de deeper raison d’etre of the initiative.

American Chronicles:The Art of Norman Rockwell Exhibition
The exhibition features more than 70 works from the Norman Rockwell Museum’s collections, including Rockwell’s 323 Saturday Evening Post covers, his greatest oil paintings and preparatory sketches, as well as archival photographs and documents that illustrate his artistic process. It’s a major retrospective of Rockwell’s work throughout his 65-year career.
American Chronicles showcases Rockwell’s portrayal of American life, from scenes of childhood innocence to the wrenching Murder in Mississippi (1965), the artist’s response to the slaying of three civil rights workers. One of the most popular American artists of the 20th century, Rockwell (1894-1978), was a keen observer of human nature and a gifted storyteller, and chronicled the changing American society through nuanced scenes of ordinary people in everyday life.
The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue featuring in-depth scholarship by longtime Curator of Rockwell Collections Linda Szekely Pero. Irvin Lippman, Executive Director of the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale said “The exhibition also allows us to examine our renowned William Glackens collection within the context of his illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post as well as Munsey’s, Scribner’s, and Harper’s magazines.” Glackens as Illustrator will be on view concurrently with the Rockwell exhibition.

Manuel Carbonell
Modern Master Sculptor An important collection of maquettes, sculptures, bas-reliefs and monumental sculptures by Cuban Master Sculptor Manuel Carbonell. His commissioned work as the creator of two of Miami’s most important landmarks, “The Tequesta Family” at the Brickell Avenue Bridge and “El Centinela del Rio” at the entrance of the Miami River in Brickell Key, denotes his more classical and figurative style. The works exhibited at the Gallery are modern, where Carbonell searches for the essence of the form and the absence of detail while giving a sense of monumentality to his work.
Carbonell Monumental at Midtown Miami Three monumental 8-foot Carbonell sculptures are on exhibit at Art Midtown on Midtown Blvd. (1st Ave) and NW 34th Street in cooperation with Daniel Azoulay Gallery. Art Basel Midtown Fairs area.

Miguel Padura, Breve Historia del Tiempo, 2009
Oil on Canvas, 57 x 62 in.
Miguel Padura. Recent Works
“Padura is one of the most interesting and innovative younger realist now working in the United States. Unlike many representational painters active in this country whose points of reference are often specifically North American, the look and feel of the frequently enigmatic compositions of Padura encompass allusions to several traditions. He is an artist who is aware of and assimilates the past in a unique way. In some instances he makes the viewer immediately aware of his sources and his points of inspiration. At other moments the beholder of his canvases can become entangled in a web of mysterious allusions that he has seemingly created out of richness of his own fantasy..”Edward J. Sullivan.
“What interests me, as critic of my own geographical latitude, is that in Padura’s paintings I detect a spiritual climate given by luminous and atmospheric equivalents which reveal a personality shaped in that notable geographic and human medium that is the Caribbean. A realist within the most demanding of the traditions, Miguel Padura has with his forcefulness and sensorial richness and important place among our artists of the Spanish-speaking world.
