Proyecto Habitar
Gean Moreno & Ernesto Oroza, Torolab, Todo por la Praxis, Democracia, Santigo Cirugeda, Juan Carlos Robles.
Individual and collective artists such as Raúl Cárdenas/Torolab, Santiago Cirugeda/Recetas Urbanas, Democracia, Gean Moreno, Ernesto Oroza, Juan Carlos Robles and Todo por la Praxis, illustrate the following cases in Madrid, Seville, Miami, Tijuana and Havana.
At the end of the Twentieth Century, while some neighborhoods deteriorated, others regenerated socially via occupation by the upper class and so generating a rapid rise in the economic value. Every year, more and more people are displaced from their homes because of abandonment of neighborhoods, land expropriation and re-zoning, rate rises and costs that outstrip salaries. The constant pressures of urban decay, land speculation, the establishment of ghettos, the influx of international migrants or the homeless from neighboring regions makes as essential review of our ideas of habitability.
A group of artists has railed against these situations, fostering a counter culture where contemporary city decadence is approached from different angles. They challenge housing problems, the use of public space, land speculation, urban settlements on the fringe of legality, enforced desertion of neighborhoods and buildings, urban decay and the formation of ghettos. They demand a new approach to homelessness. |

From November 14
American Chronicles: The Art of Norman Rockwell Exhibition
The exhibition features more than 70 works from the Norman Rockwell Museum’s collections, including Rockwell’s 323 Saturday Evening Post covers, his greatest oil paintings and preparatory sketches, as well as archival photographs and documents that illustrate his artistic process. It’s a major retrospective of Rockwell’s work throughout his 65-year career.
American Chronicles showcases Rockwell’s portrayal of American life, from scenes of childhood innocence to the wrenching Murder in Mississippi (1965), the artist’s response to the slaying of three civil rights workers. One of the most popular American artists of the 19th century, Rockwell (1894-1978), was a keen observer of human nature and a gifted storyteller, and chronicled the changing American society through nuanced scenes of ordinary people in everyday life.
The exhibition is accompanied by an illustrated catalogue featuring in-depth scholarship by longtime Curator of Rockwell Collections Linda Szekely Pero. Irvin Lippman, Executive Director of the Museum of Art | Fort Lauderdale said “The exhibition also allows us to examine our renowned William Glackens collection within the context of his illustrations for the Saturday Evening Post as well as Munsey’s, Scribner’s, and Harper’s magazines.” Glackens as Illustrator will be on view concurrently with the Rockwell exhibition. |

Third Thursday - Brickell Gallery Night
PERMANENT EXHIBIT
MANUEL CARBONELL
MODERN MASTER SCULPTOR
An important collection of maquettes, sculptures, bas-reliefs and monumental sculptures by Cuban Master Sculptor Manuel Carbonell. His commissioned work as the creator of two of Miami’s most important landmarks, “The Tequesta Family” at the Brickell Avenue Bridge and “El Centinela del Rio” at the entrance of the Miami River in Brickell Key, denotes his more classical and figurative style. The works exhibited at the Gallery are modern, where Carbonell searches for the essence of the form and the absence of detail while giving a sense of monumentality to his work.
Three monumental 8-foot Carbonell sculptures are on exhibit at Art Midtown on Midtown Blvd. and NW 34th Street in cooperation with Daniel Azoulay Gallery. We invite you to visit our gallery to see an important collection of the works of Carbonell ranging from maquettes to monumentals and the paintings and sculptures of Mauro Arbiza
