NEW SEASON / NEW ARTISTS
Michael Moon, Moshe Elimelech & Zammy Migdal
October 5 through November 10th |
Adamar South at Pop n’Art is pleased to present for the first time the work of Michael Moon, Zammy Migdal, Rosmar Santanal and Moshe Elimelech. For Michael Moon, painting is a creative experience which translates into a spiritual exercise. Influenced by Eastern thought and meditation, Moon integrates Eastern and Western thought in the symbolism of his paintings. Moshe Elimelech’s cubic constructions encourages the viewer’s participation, each work carries a distinctive composition by the artist, but each component cube can be individually rotated to create different potential compositions
Zammy Migdal works with scrapped and raw metal and finds the essence of movement in his work influenced by his interest and active support of contemporary dance. Zammy’s most recent large commission is a 15 foot sculpture for the Temple Beth Am, Miami FL. |

Labyrinths
Jorge Cavelier (Colombia)
October 5 through 30th
|
The Americas Collection is proud to present Laberintos / Labyrinths by one of our most talented and creative artist, Jorge Cavelier.
“A labyrinth is an ancient symbol that relates to wholeness. It combines the imagery of the circle and the spiral into a meandering but purposeful path. It represents a journey to our own center and back again out into the world”
All throughout his artistic career, Cavelier has purposely drawn inspiration from the heart of one of the most striking landscapes, which happens to be located in his native country Colombia. By first observing, then experiencing and ultimately becoming part of that nature, the artist leaves behind his comfort zone and any point of reference from his familiar world in order to fully understand what it means to lose himself to then emerge spiritually renewed and forever changed.
For the first time, this artist masterfully transfers his pictorial language into the three dimensional world of sculpture. |

RENATO MEZIAT
|
Jorge M. Sori Fine Art is proud to present a solo exhibit of renowned Brazilian artist Meziat. He ranks among the top notch realist contemporary painters, influenced by the works of Chilean Claudio Bravo and Cuban American Julio Larraz among others.Well cultured, attentive observer of the different "realities" that surround him, skilled in the handling of shades and colors, self-taught, who was born to paint, he searches in art the means to becoming a man of the 21st century.
Meziat shows his work with remarkable simplicity and elegance. His paintings are, many times, successful at making us smile. Never academic, his composition are always well balanced and sophisticated.
His paintings are in private collections throughout North and South America and Europe. His works have been sold very successfully at several Latin American Art auctions at Sotheby's and Christie's in New York City.

Vanguards of Geometry
Carmelo Arden Quin, Martha Boto, Sergio Camargo, Omar Carreño, Lygia Clark, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Narciso Debourg, Hugo de Marco, Gego, Alfredo Hlito, Gyula Kosice, Julio Le Parc, Raul Lozza, Cesar Paternosto, Eduardo Ramirez Villamizar, Omar Rayo, Rod Rothfuss, Mira Shendel, Jesus Soto, Luis Tomasello, Gregorio Vardanega |
Geometry in art was never a concept without precedence, but the geometric abstraction which emerges as vanguard art between the two World Wars was, a tendency which gained strength and projected itself into other countries outside the European continent towards the end of the second one of these wars, especially, and with great impetus, in Latin America.
The artists that are represented in this exhibition are part of a broad spectrum of geometry—each of them obviously with his own unique creative style and technique—.

Visiones Personales
From October 5 to 29th

Benjamin Cañas, Hugo Crosthwaite, Alexis Fernandez, Sergio Garval, Guillermo Londoño, Heriberto Mora, Alejandro Obregón, Gina Pellón, Mateo Arguelles Pitt, Irene Pressner, Arnaldo Roche-Rabell, Soledad Salamé, Alejandra Tolosa, and Marco Tulio
Hard on the heels of a Wall Street Journal tip that South American art will be the next big thing with art collectors, ArtSpace/Virginia Miller Galleries is presenting Visiones Personales, a show of works by leading master and mid-career Latin American artists. The show features works by 14 artists from eight Latin American countries.
“Specialists predict Latin America will be the next region to attract buyer interest,” wrote Margaret Studer in the Journal’s Sept. 14, 2007 edition. “This has already been the case at the Venice Biennale.”
The exhibition includes works by three acknowledged master artists: the Puerto Rican master Arnaldo Roche-Rabell, represented by a powerful six-and-a-half foot oil depicting a rooster amid swirling strokes of gold and rusty brown; Alejandro Obreg ón, considered one of the greatest living Colombian masters; and the late Benjamin Cañas, one of the foremost painters of El Salvador |

HUMBERTO BENITEZ
Artist in Residence
|
Benitez illuminates the Gables Gallery Stroll. The thick molasses of memory and the pulsing beat of conga drums are the essence of Cuban artist Humberto Benitez’s energetic, flamboyantly hued work. The painter creates canvases rich with imagery of his homeland’s music, landscape, people, and customs in exuberant, jazzy compositions that reflect his soulful yearning for a paradise lost.
The Artist Created "Descarga a Cachao" a painted upright bass for the master musician . It was presented to Israel (Cachao) Lopez by the vocalist Anthony Columbie and Willy and Lissette Chirino during the 80th anniversary concert and descargas (jam sessions) at Carnival Center for the Performing Arts. |

Art of the Everglades / Robert Storter
|
Art of the Everglades is a collection of over 40 vivid drawings and woodcarvings about pioneer life on Florida’s Southern Gulf Coast. The exhibition is on display at the Historical Museum of Southern Florida in downtown Miami through January 20, 2008. A member of the founding family of Everglade (later known as Everglades City), Rob Storter spent the last fifteen years of his life drawing his memories of growing up at the turn of the twentieth century in this remote waterside town.
“Storter’s artwork depicts a time when people lived in tune with Florida’s unique ecosystem, rather than seeking to dominate it. Having lived to see the damaging effects of development on the wildlife and landscape of the Everglades, he was acutely aware of how much had changed for the worse since his childhood,” says curator Dr. Joanne Hyppolite |

Deborah Colker Dance Company : Rota |
On the heels of a successful visit by the Merce Cunningham Dance Company for Merce in Miami, Carnival Center for the Performing Arts continues the newfound tradition of bringing world-renowned contemporary dance to Miami with a two-day engagement of the phenomenal Deborah Colker Dance Company on Friday, October 5 and Saturday, October 6 at 8 p.m.
For its only U.S. appearance this season, the company brings to Miami the acclaimed Rota, an epic exploration of gravity and space, amusement parks thrills, and the force that makes the world go round. Dominating the stage is an enormous rotating contraption, resembling the giant Ferris wheel of childhood dreams. With a thrilling sense of the danger inherent in this spectacle, the audience watches dancers twist, turn, climb, and fall in a wondrous display of death-defying split-second timing and fearless energy.

Parallel Universe / Cesar García
Solo exhibition
|
Cesar Garcia’s affinity for the “old world” is evident throughout his entire body of work. Monochromatic colors, with paint dripping in an abandoned method adding to the enchantment. “Other-worldly” medieval castles will captivate your attention and just when you think you’ve interpreted his work you discover an element of surprise, a hint of the future, medieval and futuristic worlds brought together on one canvas after another.
Garcia ’s artwork is found in public collections include the State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs, Tallahassee, U of M (Casa Bacardi), Institute for Cuban & Cuban American Studies, Housatonic Museum of Art, Connecticut and Art in Public Places, Wellington, Florida. He was accepted for group shows (2006) at the Ormond Memorial Museum and Garden, Ormond Beach, Florida and the MOLAA, Long Beach, California.
The Ellen Charapko Gallery is located in the urban village of Wilton Manors, Arts and Entertainment District, only minutes from Ft Lauderdale. |

All using unconventional materials such as gauze, sand, rocks, gravel, dirt, furniture paste, popsicle sticks, toothpicks, and incorporating the material to the canvas making their art a visceral, sensory experience. A mixing of natural materials with man-made to create canvas with a touchable surface yet hints as something deeper
